Is St George Utah a Good Place to Live?
When people ask me, “Is St George Utah a good place to live?”, one of the first things I always mention are the sunshine and the red rock views—you just can’t miss them. I’ve lived here for 12+ years, and I know that it’s not just beautiful—it’s a place where life feels a little easier, a little brighter, and a lot more adventurous. There are plenty of places to hike or bike, some of my favorite places are at Zion National Park which is only an hour away!
Benefits of Living In St George Utah
Sunshine Almost Every Day
One of the biggest reasons I love living in St. George Utah is the weather. With over 300 sunny days a year, I rarely have to cancel plans because of snow or rain. Winters are mild, which means I can still get out for a round of golf, a hike, or a bike ride when friends back home are shoveling snow. Summers do get hot, but locals know the trick: early morning or late evening adventures make the heat completely manageable—and those desert sunsets are worth every degree.
Nature Right Outside Your Door

Living in St George Utah means having some of the most amazing landscapes in the country just minutes away. I can hop in the car and be at Zion National Park in no time or explore Snow Canyon State Park for a hike without ever leaving the city limits. Sand Hollow’s dunes are perfect for an ATV Day, and the crystal-blue reservoirs make boating a regular weekend treat. Whether you’re into hiking, biking, golfing, or off-roading, adventure is never far from home.
A Growing City with a Heart
Even though St. George has grown rapidly in recent years, it still feels like a place where neighbors know each other. Local restaurants, farmers markets, and community events give the city a real sense of community. Families love the safe, friendly neighborhoods, and retirees appreciate the slower pace and peaceful desert lifestyle. Plus, Utah Tech University adds energy, sports, and cultural events that keep things exciting year-round.
Everything You Want, just a Short Drive Away
Another perk I can’t get over is the location. Las Vegas is only about two hours away, perfect for a night out or catching a flight. And if you love exploring, you’re just a short drive from national parks like Bryce Canyon, Zion, and the Grand Canyon. Weekends here almost always involve adventure.
The Lifestyle You Can’t Beat
What really makes living in St. George Utah special isn’t just the scenery—it’s the lifestyle. Life moves a little slower here, giving you time for morning hikes, afternoon golf, or evening walks with family. It’s a place where outdoor living is a daily habit, not just a weekend activity. Sure, housing prices have gone up and summers take some getting used to, but for me—and so many others—the benefits far outweigh the challenges.
What I Tell Clients Before They Move: The Honest Cons
I wouldn’t be doing you any favors if I only talked about the highlights—so here’s what I make sure my clients understand upfront:
The summer heat is no joke.
I always tell people—if you haven’t experienced a Southern Utah summer, be prepared. We’re talking consistent triple-digit temperatures from June through August. If you’re coming from a cooler climate, it can feel intense at first. That said, most of the people I’ve worked with do adjust over time. I usually recommend giving it at least one full summer before deciding how you really feel about it.
Growth has created some traffic challenges.
Living in St George Utah, I’ve watched this area grow quickly, and while that’s exciting, it does come with some growing pains. Certain roads can get congested during peak hours, and construction is pretty much always happening somewhere. The city is actively improving infrastructure, but I like my clients to go in with realistic expectations about commute times and development.
It’s a quieter lifestyle.
I always ask my clients what kind of lifestyle they’re used to. While living in St. George Utah has come a long way with dining and entertainment, it’s still not a big city. If you’re used to a wide variety of restaurants, nightlife, or a busy arts scene, it may feel a bit limited. On the flip side, that slower pace is exactly why many people choose to live here—and if you ever want more options, Las Vegas is an easy drive.
Home prices have changed.
I’m very upfront about this—what St. George was 5–10 years ago in terms of affordability is not what it is today. Prices have increased quite a bit, and the “hidden gem” pricing has largely disappeared. That’s why I always stress the importance of working with someone local who really understands the market and can help you find the best value.

Why I Believe in the Real Estate Here
One of the biggest reasons I got into real estate here is because I truly believe in the long-term value of this area. Living in St George Utah, I’ve watched it grow and evolve, and it’s not slowing down anytime soon. With its strong demand, steady population growth, and lifestyle appeal, real estate here has continued to appreciate over time. What used to be considered a hidden gem is now firmly on the map—and that’s a good thing for homeowners.
I always tell my clients that buying here isn’t just about finding a home—it’s about investing in a place that people consistently want to move to. Between the year-round sunshine, proximity to outdoor destinations, and overall quality of life, it creates a level of demand that helps support long-term value. While no market is ever guaranteed, everything I’ve seen firsthand gives me confidence that this is a solid place to put down roots.
